, has opened their first brick & mortar location at Chelsea Market! You’ve seen them at Smorgasburg, Madison Square Eats, Yankee Stadium, Governor’s Ball… and every other festival in town, serving their famous, delicious, cheesy Mozz Sticks.
At Chelsea Market they’ll serve an all-new menu based around mozzarella and burrata made fresh to-order, along with premium sandwiches and a small bites menu including their fresh mozzarella sticks and decadentcollaboration. Big Mozz will be using all locally-sourced dairy for its mozzarella and burrata from Caputo Brothers Creamery in York, Pennsylvania, along with local purveyors for its charcuterie and produce.
“We’ve always enjoyed the agility of being a mobile food vendor, but we also always said that if Chelsea Market calls, we’re going,” said Matt Gallira, Big Mozz’s founder. “The customer at Chelsea Market shares a lot with who we’ve been serving at Smorgasburg for years – they’re looking for a quintessential New York food experience that is nostalgic but also very innovative, where they can participate in what is new and exciting in popular food culture. For our first brick & mortar location, we wanted to feature an educational side to the concept, so we’ll be making fresh mozzarella all day at the counter, where people will have an opportunity to learn about the cheese-making process. We’ve found our customers love to learn where their food comes from, and how we source our food is incredibly important to us. That being said, I think we would have a revolt on our hands if we didn’t have Mozz Sticks on the menu, so they’ll be available too.”
Big Mozz’s Chelsea Market space, which will have a soft opening Thursday, January 3rd, will include a 30-foot bar, where visitors will be able to watch both a fresh mozzarella-making station and a breading line at work making Chicken Parm bites and other sharable dishes. Craft beer and wine will be available a few weeks after opening.
Encompassing a 325-square-foot space, Big Mozz at Chelsea Market will feature fresh mozzarella to-go in addition to its full menu. The location will be open daily from 11am – 9pm. Its full menu will be available for delivery and private events.
Based in Brooklyn, Big Mozz started in 2015 at Smorgasburg. In addition to expanding into Chelsea Market, the company is currently building food trucks in Los Angeles and New York City, as well as expanding into new stadiums and venues around the country.
