On-The-Go Spring Essentials

7 Items to throw in your purse and never leave behind

With four nor’easters and the promise of spring on the horizon in NYC, I can’t begin to tell you what jacket to wear, but I can tell you the items you won’t want to leave the house without this time of year!

1. The Body Shop Hand Cream

Our gloves are being left at home and our hands are constantly being exposed to the wind as we walk down the street on our phones. Our knuckles really take the brunt of the dryness, and moisturizer is a must! What I love about The Body Shop Hand Cream is that it doesn’t leave your hands feeling greasy. You can apply and continue with your day! They’ve created a trial size that fits in the palm of your hand, and the packaging is thick, so you don’t have to worry about other objects in your purse puncturing it and causing a mess. thebodyshop.com

2. Nivea Moisture Lip Care

Lip balm can be a sacred topic. If you have a brand you’ve been faithful to since elementary school, I wouldn’t dare intrude. However, I discovered Nivea Moisture Lip Care two years ago on a whim, and I’ll never turn back! Just as our skin is dry this time of year, our lips are suffering from the weather, as well. Nivea Lip Care provides immediate relief, is scentless, and helps with the skin surrounding the lips. While it may not be the most glamorous balm on the market, it gets the job done! niveausa.com

3. Zarbee’s Naturals Honey Cough Soothers

Discovering this brand and this product was a gift from above! With the weather going from 22 degrees to 62 in the blink of an eye, dry throats and coughs have been plentiful this season. These cough drops truly sooth a dry, irritated throat. My favorite thing about this product is that you only need ONE, and it lasts quite a while! (Does eating multiple cherry cough drops like they’re candy, only to be left in pain sound familiar?) Zarbee’s has created a cough drop that is free from processed sugars and artificial flavors. The brand doesn’t claim their products heal sickness or prevent allergies, but like its namesake, it truly soothes. Whether you’re auditioning for a Broadway show or giving a presentation at work, make sure you keep a pack of these in your bag.  www.zarbees.com

4. Urban Decay Glide-On Lip Pencil and Vice Lipstick

No matter what time of year or what function you’re attending, UD has a color for you. Boasting an overwhelming 104 shades, you can have matte, shimmer, “metallized”, or cream looks in a variety of colors. I have been using this lipstick for almost ten years, and while I have ventured out to other brands, I always find my way back to Urban Decay. The glide on lip-liner lasts for hours, and doesn’t bleed onto the skin. (HALLELUJAH!) The lipsticks are very pigmented and provide hours of color. This duo is guaranteed to be in my bag every day of the year! urbandecay.com

5. Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Powder

After years of use, this product continues to blow me away! With a light dusting of this powder, you’ll have hours of a matte, shine-free finish. Make Up For Ever was created for people on camera, so this brand has figured out the recipe for no shine. It doesn’t clog the pores, and the product lasts a long time because you don’t need much to get the job done. I love having this in my bag with a small, loose brush for long days. http://www.makeupforever.com

6. Zarbee’s Immune Support & Vitamin C Drink Mix

Another Zarbee’s miracle that naturally works wonders! This is the time of year to be preventative since the weather is so unpredictable. This product comes in packaging about the size of sugar packets and is simply added to water before consumption. The main ingredients are honey, zinc, and vitamin C, with no artificial sweeteners or flavors. The best offense is a good defense, and thanks to Zarbee’s, it’s simple to make sure your immune system is ready. You can toss a few packets in your purse and enjoy one anytime during the day. www.zarbees.com

BONUS SUGGESTION: Zarbee’s Elderberry Immune Support Gummies

Not necessarily meant for your purse, but excellent to take before you leave the house. Once again, a product with no artificial ingredients, but an excellent taste. The gummies contain elderberry extract, vitamins A, C, E, and zinc. If you’re someone who is concerned about the artificial sugars in gummie vitamins and cough drops, Zarbee’s has found the natural solution. While their products do not claim to cure any sickness, they’re an excellent tool for prevention.

7. Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream

Dry skin is a burden, but dry cuticles are downright painful! This product provides instant relief and moisture to cuticles. You don’t need a lot, so the pocket-sized container lasts a while. I love using this is tandem with The Body Shop Hand Cream. burtsbees.com

All of these products can be found at your local drugstore or makeup store. Better yet, they come in sizes that fit in the palm of your hand! From my experience, all the packaging is sturdy, and I’ve had very few accidents with things opening and spilling. I love trying out new products, but these have stood the test of time! While I can’t tell you if nor’easters or tulips are on their way, I can guarantee these products will help you prepare for whatever is ahead!
