Hear ye, hear ye! New Yorkers, rejoice – our first glimpse into the 2018 Met Gala! Wintour is coming and if you look past the snow-filled mornings and cold nights, and peak into next spring you will see Anna Wintour preparing for the 2018 Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala.
According to the bible, Vogue, The Costume Institute’s theme for the 2018 Met Gala will be “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” A strong contradiction from last years avant-garde theme.
But the good news doesn’t stop there! Three of fashion’s most influential women will host the gala; Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace!
As always the gala will be held on the first Monday in May – this coming year on Monday, May 7, 2018.
The gala is based on the upcoming exhibit of the same name. According to The New York Times the exhibition will stretch “across three galleries — the Anna Wintour Costume Center, the medieval rooms in the Met on Fifth Avenue and the Cloisters — and approximately 58,600 square feet, it will feature 50 or so ecclesiastical garments and accessories on loan from the Vatican, multiple works from the Met’s own collection of religious art and 150 designer garments that have been inspired by Catholic iconography or style.”
“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” is on view May 10–October 8, 2018. A catalog with photographs by Katerina Jebb will accompany the exhibition.
