The Cool Culture UnGala took place on Wednesday, May 18th at Phillips Auction House from 7 PM to 10 PM. It was a celebration of #artforall, a fundraiser for Cool Culture programming and capacity building and the honoring of two artists who have used their platform to advocate for social justice and inclusion. Visionary interdisciplinary artist Sanford Biggers was honored and rising digital artist and photographer Ayqa Khan was also honored. Former Brooklyn Museum Director and current Senior Advisor at Phillips, Arnold Lehman was a guest speaker. He spoke on the importance of arts access for all and why Cool Culture programming is important.
The event was filled with established and rising artist, as well as preschool and museum educators, art enthusiasts, board members, host committee members, digital influencers, socialites, philanthropist, social justice advocates and Cool Culture advocates. The crowd was extremely diverse and reflective of the NYC landscape. In total we had 323 attendees.
The evening was catered by Bite Catering. Bacardi was a sponsor. There was a full open bar. Interactive activities included a live etch-a-sketch artist, Bryan Lee Maden and a Performance Art piece by artist Kenya “Cheeky LaSHAE” Robinson.

Guests included: Jia Jia (Digital Influencer with over 50,000 followers on Instagram & Digital Director at the Jewish Museum), Sir Sargent (Digital Influencer with close to 50K followers), Ricky and Dee (Rising Designers)with over 13,000 followers on Instagram, Bevy Smith was our host for the evening. She is also a Cool Culture Board member, TV personality and Sirius XM Radio Host of, REVELATIONS, Sheinelle Jones, Weekend Today Anchor was also in attendance, Isolde Brielmaier (art curator) was also in attendance, Arnold Lehman was our guest speaker, he is the former Director at the Brooklyn Museum and currently a Senior Advisor at Phillips. The evening’s honorees included artists Sanford Biggers and Ayqa Khan.
We also had several philanthropist and socialites in attendance including Lady Liliana Cavendish, Suzi Cordish and Robin Cofer.
Some silent auction items included: Two original works of art by artist Bradley Theodore; A make-over experience by celebrity make-up artist Nick Barose. (Known for working on Oscar winning actresses Lupita Wyong’o and Brie Larson; His experience will make it’s way to Charity Buzz next week.) and more!, A private tour of Sanford Biggers studio for up to 4 individuals.
